What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol, one of the hundreds of chemical compounds found in hemp and cannabis. CBD is typically sourced from industrial hemp, which means that it contains virtually none of the THC. THC is associated with the ‘high’ delivered by cannabis. CBD can also be derived from cannabis, and used with or without THC.

What are CBD benefits?

CBD producers are reluctant to make medical claims for their products. This is mainly because hemp has only recently been legalized, so clinical trials of CBD are ongoing. Expect positive results in the near future. Cannabis is being gradually legalized around the world, often led by its medical benefits, so trials are ongoing with THC also. In the United States, the cannabidiol drug Epidiolex was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2018 for the treatment of two epilepsy disorders. In February 2020, the UK Food Safety Authority advised vulnerable people, such as pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and those already taking medication for other medical concerns not to take CBD. The FSA further recommended that healthy adults should not consume more than 70mg CBD per day (Wikipedia).
